You can create a ticket for Tech Services with the Chromebook asset tag. Tech Services will perform a factory reset, and you can then proceed to Step 3 after the reset is completed.
Step 1: Enter Recovery Mode
- Turn off the Chromebook.
- Press and hold the following keys at the same time:
- The Chromebook should enter the recovery screen.
Step 2: Attempt Developer Mode Reset
- At the recovery screen, press:
- Attempt to enter Developer Mode.
- An error message will appear.
- Press Enter.
- When prompted to return to Secure Mode, press Enter again to confirm.
Step 3: Reconnect to the Network
- Allow the Chromebook to boot back up.
- Connect the Chromebook directly to the network using a USB-C to Ethernet adapter.
- The Chromebook should reconnect to Chromebook Wi-Fi automatically.
- Continue through all prompts until setup is complete.
Step 4: Test the Microphone in SecureTest
- Launch the SecureTest Browser.
- Select the following:
- Organization/State: California
- Assessment Program: California Assessment System
- Select Practice Test Site.
- Run the diagnostics (top of the .
- Complete the Audio/Video Check.
- Scroll down to the microphone section and test the microphone.
If the Issue Continues
If the microphone is still not functioning after completing these steps, escalate the issue to Tech Services for additional troubleshooting.
