Reporting Suspicious Email Messages

Although we have capable email filtering in place, it's not perfect, and sometimes a suspicious message will be delivered to your mailbox. Frequently, these messages will appear legitimate at a glance, but upon deeper inspection, it's usually clear that the message is fake, often trying to get you to give up your login credentials.

Using the steps below, you can help train the filters by reporting suspicious messages directly in Outlook (Windows, Mac, or Web browser). Don't hesitate to report these to Tech Services, as we will also work on removing them from other users' mailboxes.

Outlook Desktop App (older versions)

In the older versions of Outlook, you'll need to open the message first, click Report Message (1), Phishing (2), and then confirm with Report.

If you don't see the Report Message tool, try the '3-dot' menu (1), click Report Message (2), Phishing (3), and then confirm with Report.

Outlook Desktop App (newer version) or Outlook Online (browser)

In the newer versions of Outlook (including the online version in your web browser), you can right-click the item in your message list without opening it, then click Report Message (1), Phishing (2), and then confirm with Report.

Or, if you have the message open, select the Report menu (1), Phishing (2), and then confirm with Report.
